Summary

The French version of the Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST-Fr) is a reliable tool for assessing sexual addiction. This validated questionnaire demonstrates excellent internal consistency and a one-factor structure, comparable to the original English version.

Background:

The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST) is a widely used international tool for diagnosing sexual addiction.
Validation of translated versions is crucial for global clinical application and research.

Purpose of the Study:

To translate the SAST into French, creating the SAST-Fr.
To evaluate the psychometric properties of the SAST-Fr, including its factor structure, internal consistency, and convergent validity.

Main Methods:

Online recruitment of 398 voluntary participants.
Administration of the SAST-Fr, sociodemographic questionnaire, and Goodman's diagnostic criteria.
Exploratory factor analysis, Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) for internal consistency, and Pearson correlation analyses were performed.

Main Results:

The SAST-Fr exhibited a robust one-factor structure, explaining 31% of the variance.
Excellent internal consistency was demonstrated with KR-20 = 0.90.
Significant correlations were found between SAST-Fr scores and Goodman's criteria (r=0.79, P<0.001).

Conclusions:

The SAST-Fr is a psychometrically sound and valid instrument for assessing sexual addiction symptoms in French-speaking populations.
Its properties are comparable to the original English SAST, supporting its use in clinical and research settings.
