Background:

A 2008 survey in a hospital's perioperative division revealed deficiencies in patient-centered care, teamwork, and communication.
These issues indicated a need for targeted interventions to improve the safety culture.

Purpose of the Study:

To design and implement a safety training program for perioperative staff.
To enhance patient safety culture by focusing on teamwork and communication.

Main Methods:

A multidisciplinary team developed a training program incorporating Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS).
Training utilized video vignettes and an audience response system, covering preprocedural briefings, postprocedural debriefings, conflict resolution, and assertiveness.
