Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the effect of overactive bladder (OAB) on work productivity and employment in a large US population.
  • To examine differences in work-related outcomes between individuals with and without OAB.
  • To identify predictors of unemployment among individuals with OAB.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional, internet-based survey of 5795 US adults aged 18-70.
  • OAB assessed using the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) tool, defined by urinary urgency and/or urgency urinary incontinence (UUI).
  • Work productivity measured using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI-GH and WPAI-SH); logistic regression analyzed unemployment predictors.

  • The findings highlight the substantial economic and personal burden of OAB on the workforce.
