Main Results:

  • Significant reduction in mean VAPS from 6.5 to 1.
  • Marked improvement in mean active ROM: flexion from 68° to 138°, abduction from 66° to 134°, external rotation from 23° to 52°.
  • Mean ASES score improved from 27 to 76; mean SST score from 1 to 8. 12 excellent, 5 satisfactory, 2 unsatisfactory results. Complications included fractures, dislocation, neuropathy; 42% scapular notching observed.

Conclusions:

  • Reverse shoulder arthroplasty provides significant early functional improvement and pain relief for shoulders affected by inflammatory arthritis and rotator cuff deficiency.
  • The procedure is a promising option for managing these challenging cases, despite potential complications like scapular notching.
