  • To evaluate the impact of a newly implemented checklist on safe surgical practices in ESS.
  • To assess the frequency of specific safety tasks before and after checklist adoption across multiple institutions.

  • A prospective, multi-institutional observational study was conducted.
  • 10 specific safety tasks were documented in 200 ESS cases (100 pre-checklist, 100 post-checklist).
  • Statistical analysis (Pearson χ(2) and McNemar χ(2) tests) was used to compare task performance.

  • Before checklist implementation, 0% of ESS cases included all 10 safety tasks.
  • Individual task performance ranged from 14% to 95% pre-checklist.

Conclusions:

  • Heterogeneity in ESS safety task performance was evident prior to checklist use.

  • Checklist utilization significantly improved the likelihood of performing critical safety measures during ESS.
