Summary

This study established reference intervals for platelet aggregation using the Multiplate® analyzer in hirudin whole blood. Platelet aggregation was higher in women than men and associated with platelet and white blood cell counts.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To validate the Multiplate® analyzer for platelet aggregation analysis in hirudin whole blood.
  • To establish reference intervals for common agonists (arachidonic acid, ADP, collagen, ristocetin).
  • To investigate associations between platelet aggregation, age, gender, and hematological parameters.

Main Methods:

  • 121 healthy individuals were included to establish reference intervals.
  • Platelet aggregation was measured using the Multiplate® system with various agonists.
  • Hematological values were determined using Sysmex K-4500 automated hematology analyzer.

Main Results:

  • Reference intervals were established for platelet aggregation in hirudin whole blood.
  • Platelet aggregation was significantly higher in women than men for most agonists.
  • Positive associations were found between platelet aggregation and platelet count, and white blood cell count.

Conclusions:
