Robot-assisted thyroidectomy offers cosmetic benefits over traditional surgery. This early experience shows the gasless axillo-breast approach is safe and effective for thyroid removal.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and feasibility of robot-assisted thyroidectomy using a gasless unilateral axillo-breast approach.

Main Methods:

  • Two robot-assisted endoscopic thyroidectomies were performed using the da Vinci surgical system.
  • A gasless unilateral axillo-breast approach was utilized.

Main Results:

  • Right thyroid lobectomies were completed in both patients.
  • Pathology revealed micropapillary carcinoma in one and a benign cyst in the other.
  • Operation times were 165 and 110 minutes, with no postoperative complications.

Conclusions:

  • Robot-assisted thyroidectomy via the gasless axillo-breast approach is a safe and feasible option.
  • The procedure provides good cosmetic results based on early experience.
