Area of Science:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Context:

  • Retrospective analysis of 387 patients.
  • Focus on first-trimester pregnancy outcomes.
  • Evaluation of chorionic villus sampling safety.

Purpose:

  • Establish background fetal loss rate in early pregnancy.
  • Assess the safety and risks associated with chorionic villus sampling.
  • Analyze the impact of maternal age on pregnancy outcomes.

Summary:

  • Increased risk of spontaneous abortion observed with advancing maternal age.
  • Miscarriage rate of 9.81% noted, higher than the 4.4% rate associated with chorionic biopsy.
  • Potential contributing factors include therapeutic abortions and sonograms performed post-bleeding.
