Initial experience in ablation of typical atrial flutter using a novel three-dimensional catheter tracking system

This study shows that MediGuide™ Technology (MG) is a safe and effective tool for atrial flutter ablation, significantly reducing fluoroscopy time. The novel 3D catheter tracking system provides excellent spatial orientation for electrophysiology procedures.

Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the safety and feasibility of MG technology for typical atrial flutter ablation.
- To assess procedural effectiveness, duration, and fluoroscopy time using MG technology.
Main Methods:
- Ten patients underwent typical atrial flutter ablation using MG technology.
- Two sensor-equipped EP catheters were used for coronary sinus cannulation and cavo-tricuspidal isthmus (CTI) reconstruction.
- Ablation was performed with a conventional catheter; MG catheters were tracked non-fluoroscopically.
Main Results:
- MG technology enabled non-fluoroscopic tracking of catheters in all 10 patients.
- Successful anatomical CTI reconstruction and documented complete isthmus block were achieved.
- Procedure duration was comparable to conventional methods (55 ± 8 min), with significantly reduced fluoroscopy time (2.5 ± 2 min).
- No adverse events were reported.

- MG technology provides a stable system for excellent 3D catheter orientation in EP.
- The system facilitates successful atrial flutter ablation with reduced fluoroscopy times.
- Further advancements are expected with sensor-equipped ablation catheters.
