Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Solid-pseudopapillary tumour (SPT) is a rare pancreatic exocrine neoplasm with low malignant potential.
  • Malignant behavior in SPT is difficult to predict, with criteria for solid-pseudopapillary carcinoma (SPC) including perineural invasion, angioinvasion, and tissue invasion.

Observation:

  • A case of SPC is presented with clinical and radiological findings typical for SPT, showing no metastatic disease.
  • Histopathological review confirmed SPT features with the addition of perineural invasion, but no angioinvasion or capsular invasion.

Findings:

  • The patient exhibited no tumor recurrence at 4 months post-resection.
  • The presence of only one risk factor (perineural invasion) and clear surgical margins suggests a favorable prognosis.

Implications:

  • This case contributes to understanding the diagnosis and management of SPC.
  • Early diagnosis and surgical management, even with limited adverse features, may lead to good disease-free survival for SPC patients.
