The PathTezt® Infinity with Autoloader produces high-quality cervical cancer screening smears with 97.7% overall good performance. This automated system is effective and suitable for widespread use in cytological evaluations.
Area of Science:
- Cytopathology
- Medical Device Technology
- Public Health
Background:
- Cervical cancer screening relies on the quality of cytological smears.
- Automated systems aim to improve efficiency and consistency in slide preparation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the quality of cervical cytological smears generated by the PathTezt® Infinity with Autoloader.
- To assess key parameters including cellularity, epithelial cell coverage, arrangement, preservation, and interfering factors.
Main Methods:
- 1003 Pap smear samples were processed using the PathTezt® Infinity with Autoloader.
- Slides were analyzed for smear adequacy, cellular coverage, arrangement, preservation, and obscuring factors.
Main Results:
- 94.1% of samples were adequate for evaluation.
- 85.7% showed good cellular arrangement, and 94.7% had minimal obscuration by inflammatory cells.
- The overall "good" performance rate was 97.7%.
Conclusions:
- The PathTezt® Infinity with Autoloader yields high-quality cervical smears.
- The system is user-friendly, automated, and cost-effective.
- It is a suitable tool for cervical cancer screening programs.
