Summary

This study evaluated the success of ERCP procedures in a hospital setting from August 1998 to July 1999. A total of 322 patients underwent ERCP, with an average of 26.9 cases per month. The cannulation success rate was 80%, with an average procedure time of 12 minutes. Two surgeons achieved credentialing status based on training guidelines. Mortality was 0.6% and morbidity was 0.9%. The study found that at least six months of duodenoscopy training is needed to master ERCP. The high cannulation success rate reduced the need for common bile duct exploration. The study also identified reasons for cannulation failure that could help improve future training programs.
