Summary

The retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy approach is associated with less pain, lower opioid use, and shorter hospital stays compared to the transperitoneal method for ureteral stones. Stone removal success rates were similar between both laparoscopic techniques.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the outcomes of transperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy (TLU) versus retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy (RLU).
  • To determine if one laparoscopic approach is superior for treating proximal or mid ureteral stones.

  • A prospective randomized study involving 48 patients with ureteral stones.
  • Patients were randomized 1:1 to undergo either TLU or RLU.
