Background:

  • Osteoporosis is a significant global health issue.
  • Bone mineral density (BMD) is known to correlate with anthropometric measures, but this relationship can be influenced by ethnic and environmental factors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between various anthropometric indices and bone mineral density (BMD) in the Iranian population.
  • To identify key anthropometric predictors of BMD.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized data from the Iranian Multicenter Osteoporosis Study.
  • Analyzed associations between anthropometric indices (height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, BMI) and BMD at the femur and lumbar spine.
  • Employed t-tests and one-way ANOVA for statistical analysis.

Main Results:

  • A total of 4445 subjects (1900 males, 2545 females) were included.
  • Statistically significant correlations were found between BMD and height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and body mass index (BMI).
