Abstract:
DNA base compositions, DNA/DNA homologies and lipid studies were performed on some dairy and skin coryneform bacteria in an attempt to clarify their taxonomy. The results of the present and earlier studies (Sharpe et al., 1978) indicate the dairy and skin isolates represent two new species of the genus Brevibacterium. The isolates from cheese and milk are named Brevibacterium casei sp. nov. and those from human skin Brevibacterium epidermidis sp. nov. The type strains are NCDO 2048 (CMD1) and NCDO 2286 (D731), respectively.
