Assessment and management of food safety risks

The scientific community believes that the U.S. food supply is as safe as any. Obviously, there are areas in need to improvement and it is clear that the scientific priorities are different from those of the lay public. There is concern that these differences in priorities have been translated into policy that may be misdirected. Such misdirected by policy could result in the less than optimal use of finite resources. One solution proposed to solve this dilemma is to improve risk assessment techniques and to more effectively communicate concepts related to risk. All must share this responsibility.
