Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the anatomical site, age, and gender distribution of colorectal cancer (CRC) and polyps.
  • To analyze changes in CRC and polyp characteristics over two distinct time periods at a single referral center in Rome, Italy.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of CRC cases from surgery/pathology registers and polyp data from colonoscopy reports.
  • Exclusion of patients with specific genetic syndromes (familial adenomatous polyposis, hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer) or inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Findings suggest a need for re-evaluation of screening strategies to address the changing epidemiology of colorectal neoplasia.
