Summary

Survivors of attempted suicide by hanging may experience neurological deficits. Despite severe brain dysfunction indicated by burst-suppression electroencephalography (BS-EEG), some patients recover with minor cognitive impairments.

Background:

  • This case highlights the potential for neurological recovery despite severe EEG abnormalities after attempted hanging.
  • Understanding long-term cognitive outcomes is crucial for patient management and rehabilitation.
  • BS-EEG findings, while indicative of severe brain injury, do not always preclude functional recovery.
