Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis is a rare condition.
  • This is the first report in dermatological literature.

Observation:

  • Key features include fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, and occasional skin eruptions (urticarial, rubella-like, or drug-induced erythema).

Findings:

  • Skin biopsy reveals a mild lymphohistiocytic perivascular infiltrate in the papillary and mid dermis.
  • Fibrinogen deposition around capillary vessels is observed.

Implications:

  • Subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis is responsive to oral corticosteroid therapy.
  • Antibiotics are ineffective for treating this condition.
