  • A large-scale population-based study was conducted to compare the diagnostic performance of two FITs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the performance of two quantitative fecal immunochemical tests (FITs), Magstream and OC Sensor, in a colorectal cancer screening program.
  • To evaluate their accuracy against the Hemoccult II guaiac test.

Main Methods:

  • 19,797 individuals aged 50-74 years in France participated in the screening program between June 2009 and May 2011.
  • Fecal samples were analyzed using Magstream FIT, OC Sensor FIT, and Hemoccult II guaiac test.
  • Colonoscopies were performed for positive results; advanced neoplasia detection was assessed.

Main Results:

  • The OC Sensor FIT and Magstream FIT showed lower numbers needed to screen and scope for advanced neoplasia compared to Hemoccult II.
  • At a similar false-positive rate to Hemoccult II, OC Sensor FIT had a higher true-positive rate (0.90%) than Magstream FIT (0.65%).
  • The OC Sensor FIT exhibited a greater area under the receiver operating characteristic curve value than the Magstream FIT.

Conclusions:

  • The OC Sensor FIT is more accurate than the Magstream FIT for identifying colorectal cancer in a population undergoing screening.
  • This finding supports the use of OC Sensor FIT for enhanced colorectal cancer screening accuracy.
