Assessment of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in sub-clinical hypothyroidism

Purpose of the Study:

- Mean ejection fraction (EF) showed no significant difference between hypothyroid patients and controls.
- Significant diastolic dysfunction was evident in hypothyroid patients (mean Ei/Ai = 1.35 ± 0.53) compared to controls (mean Ei/AI = 2.11 ± 0.26).
Conclusions:
- Sub-clinical hypothyroidism is associated with significant diastolic dysfunction.
- Systolic function remains largely unimpaired in the presence of sub-clinical hypothyroidism.
