Q&A: Steven E. McKenzie, MD, PhD: At the Intersection of Academic Research and Biomedicine
Abstract:
Philadelphia's Thomas Jefferson University is making a concerted effort to take a leadership role in biomedical research. The man behind this effort - who views individualized counseling as 'cool' - hopes it will foster a team approach to undergraduate medical education and patient care, prepare faculty and fellows for biotechnology's promise, and provide all with an understanding of how laboratory work can be translated into clinical ideas. He also sees an opportunity for third-party payers to collaborate with academic researchers on health-education strategies.
