Cultural Adaptation in Healthcare

Background:

Hispanic cultural treatment programs are scarce.
Family involvement in treatment for Hispanic communities is limited.
Existing family-centered models need cultural validation for Hispanic families.

Purpose of the Study:

To test the effectiveness of a family-centered intervention for Hispanic families.
To compare the efficacy of a family-centered model across Hispanic and non-Hispanic families.
To evaluate culturally adapted interventions for diverse populations.

Main Methods:

Two prospective studies were conducted.
The 'Celebrating Families!' program was administered in English to both Hispanic and non-Hispanic families.
A Spanish-translated and culturally adapted version, '¡Celebrando Familias!', was also evaluated with Hispanic families.

Main Results:

The family-centered treatment model demonstrated effectiveness.
Hispanic families showed comparable outcomes to non-Hispanic families in both English and Spanish program versions.
Cultural adaptation did not diminish treatment efficacy.

Conclusions:

Family-centered treatment is a viable and effective approach for Hispanic clients.
Culturally adapted interventions can successfully bridge cultural gaps in treatment.
The findings support the scalability of family-centered models across diverse ethnic groups.
