[Woman, hormones and migraine]
Abstract:
Migraine is a problem of young working-age women in particular, and may influence the choice of the method of contraception. Other conditions causing headache should be taken into account in the differential diagnosis of migraine with an onset during pregnancy. Effective drugs are available for acute treatment, but in some attacks the effect of the drugs is insufficient. In women, these attacks are frequently associated with menstrual migraine. Recognition of prolonged and intense attacks as menstrual migraine, their anticipation and medication of attacks according to instructions are means to improve the treatment outcome.

Hormonal Regulation of the Menstrual Cycle
At puberty, GnRH begins a pulsatile release pattern, which triggers the anterior pituitary gland to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). The frequency and amplitude of GnRH pulses vary across the menstrual cycle, with faster pulses favoring LH release and slower pulses favoring FSH release.
Hormonal Regulation of Blood Pressure
Epinephrine and Norepinephrine
The adrenal medulla releases epinephrine and norepinephrine, catecholamines that enhance and extend the sympathetic or "fight or flight" physiological response. These hormones escalate heart rate and the force of contraction while...
Menses Phase
When fertilization does not occur, the corpus luteum deteriorates, causing a significant drop in the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body. This hormonal decrease triggers the release of prostaglandins, which cause the uterine...
