  • To investigate the etiological factors contributing to atrophic glossitis (AG).
  • To examine the correlation between AG and serum levels of cobalamin and folate.

  • Retrospective analysis of 213 AG patients (1979-2010).
  • Prospective testing of serum cobalamin, folate, and complete blood count in 72 new AG patients (2010-2011).
  • Statistical analysis using SPSS 16.0 with Student's t-test.

  • 45.4% of AG patients had megaloblastic anemia (MA) or macrocytosis.
  • Cobalamin deficiency was identified in 50 out of 72 newly enrolled AG patients.
