Association between the p53 codon 72 Arg/Pro polymorphism and hepatocellular carcinoma risk

- Subgroup analyses revealed an increased HCC risk associated with the p53 codon 72 Arg/Pro polymorphism in Asians and Caucasians.
- Significant associations were also found in subgroup analyses by source of controls and hepatitis virus infection status.
Conclusions:
- The p53 codon 72 Arg/Pro polymorphism plays a significant role in the development of HCC.
- Gender and family history of HCC do not appear to modulate the effect of this polymorphism on HCC risk.
