Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.

Operant Conditioning Intervention01:24

Operant Conditioning Intervention

Operant conditioning serves as a foundational principle in therapeutic interventions aimed at modifying maladaptive behaviors. Central to this approach is the notion that behaviors, both adaptive and maladaptive, are learned through reinforcement. By analyzing the environmental factors that reinforce problematic behaviors, clinicians can design interventions to weaken these reinforcements and replace maladaptive behaviors with healthier alternatives.
In operant conditioning, behaviors that are...

Documentation in Long-Term and Home Healthcare Setting

Documentation in long-term care facilities and home healthcare settings is crucial for ensuring continuous, coordinated, and comprehensive care for patients. Each setting has its specific documentation processes and tools:

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation.
A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome is...

Summary

Systematic reviews in occupational therapy are scarce in dedicated journals. Occupational therapists (OTs) must search broadly for evidence, as few reviews specifically address OT interventions.

Cognitive Function and Upper Limb Rehabilitation Training Post-Stroke Using a Digital Occupational Training System

Published on: December 29, 2023

Area of Science:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence-Based Practice
  • Systematic Reviews

Background:

  • Occupational therapy relies on evidence-based practice.
  • Systematic reviews are crucial for synthesizing research findings.
  • The OTseeker database is a key resource for occupational therapy literature.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify and describe the quantity, topics, and publication trends of systematic reviews relevant to occupational therapy.
  • To assess the representation of occupational therapy in the OTseeker database.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional survey was conducted.
  • Systematic reviews indexed in OTseeker in December 2011 were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Out of 1,940 systematic reviews in OTseeker, only 53 (2.7%) were published in occupational therapy journals.
  • The most common diagnostic categories were affective disorders (10.5%) and stroke (10.1%).
  • Consumer education (33.2%) and psychosocial techniques (29.4%) were the most frequent intervention categories. Only 20.1% of reviews specifically involved occupational therapy.

Conclusions:

  • Occupational therapists should broaden their search strategies for systematic reviews or utilize databases like OTseeker.
  • Improved clarity in research reporting regarding occupational therapy's role is needed.
  • Practitioners must critically evaluate systematic reviews to ensure conclusions are evidence-based.
