Hyperhomocysteinemia significantly increases the risk of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) in Indian patients. Measuring total plasma homocysteine levels is recommended for RVO diagnosis.

- Hyperhomocysteinemia is confirmed as a significant risk factor for RVO.
- Total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) level measurement should be a routine investigation for patients presenting with RVO.
