XRCC1 polymorphisms increase bladder cancer risk in Asians: a meta-analysis

Genetic variations in X-ray cross complementing group 1 (XRCC1) are linked to bladder cancer risk in Asians. The Arg194Trp and Arg280His polymorphisms significantly increase bladder cancer susceptibility, while Arg399Gln shows no association.

- The XRCC1 Arg194Trp polymorphism was associated with a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer (allele comparison OR = 1.20; dominant model OR = 1.20).
- The XRCC1 Arg280His polymorphism also showed a significant association with elevated bladder cancer risk (heterozygote comparison OR = 1.87; dominant model OR = 1.75).
- No significant association was found between the XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism and bladder cancer susceptibility.
Conclusions:
- The XRCC1 Arg194Trp and Arg280His polymorphisms are associated with a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer in the Asian population.
- The XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism does not appear to influence bladder cancer susceptibility in this population.
- These findings contribute to understanding the genetic predisposition to bladder cancer in Asians.
