Master of Public Health (MPH) programs in Canada aim to train public health professionals.
The Public Health Agency of Canada defined core competencies to guide MPH program development and evaluation.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the effectiveness of a business plan capstone project in demonstrating MPH core competencies.
To advocate for the adoption of business plan capstone projects in Canadian MPH programs.

Main Methods:

Utilized a business plan framework as a capstone project within the University of Guelph MPH program.
Assessed the project's ability to incorporate all 36 public health core competencies.

Main Results:

The business plan capstone project successfully integrated all 36 public health core competencies.
The project provided students with real-world experience in public health program development and financial planning.

Conclusions:

Business plan capstone projects are an effective method for evaluating MPH graduate proficiency in core competencies.
This approach enhances practice-based learning and equips graduates with essential skills for navigating resource constraints in public health.
