A study of haemoglobin levels in women before and after childbirth
Abstract:
This retrospective study addresses the question of the use of Syntometrine given routinely following delivery in women who have normal childbirth. From case records 50 primiparous and 50 multiparous women were studied, half of each group having Syntometrine and half no Syntometrine. The haemoglobin at booking and three days after delivery was recorded. There were no statistically significant findings between the four groups in terms of the differences in haemoglobin levels at the time of booking and after delivery.

Factors Affecting Erythropoiesis
Several factors influence the erythrocyte production rate, with tissue oxygen level being among the most critical. Intense exercise or high altitudes can cause tissue hypoxia, which triggers the kidneys to release more erythropoietin (EPO) into the bloodstream.
