Summary

Extraoral osseointegrated implants are safe and effective for rehabilitating craniofacial deformities. Radiotherapy does not hinder implant osseointegration, ensuring successful prosthetic support.

Main Results:

  • Overall, 164 extraoral implants were analyzed.
  • 116 out of 164 implants (95.1%) achieved successful osseointegration in non-irradiated sites.
  • 40 out of 42 implants (95.3%) in previously irradiated regions also achieved successful osseointegration.

Conclusions:

  • Extraoral craniofacial implants are a safe and effective method for rehabilitating patients with facial deformities.
  • Radiotherapy treatment does not negatively impact the osseointegration of these implants.
  • Successful prosthetic rehabilitation is achievable even in patients with a history of radiation therapy.
