Methods of Documentation III: PIE

Problem-intervention-evaluation (PIE) is a systematic approach to documentation used in healthcare settings for clinical decision-making and patient care planning. It is a structured approach to organizing patient data based on problems, interventions, and evaluations. Here's a breakdown of its key features and considerations:
Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-I01:21

Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-I

An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care.
Physicians
The physician's primary responsibility is to diagnose illness and direct the medical or surgical treatment of the condition. The authority to admit patients to a healthcare agency or institution and practice care within that setting is granted to physicians by the healthcare agency or institution itself.

Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-II

An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care. Here are a few more healthcare professionals.
Physical Therapist
A physical therapist (PT) aims to restore function or prevent additional impairment in a patient following an injury or disease. Massage, heat, cold, water, sonar waves, exercises, and electrical stimulation are some treatments used by PTs to treat...

Nursing Clinical Information System

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:
Peripheral Artery Disease III: Interprofessional Care01:27

Peripheral Artery Disease III: Interprofessional Care

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is characterized by narrowed arteries that diminish blood flow to the extremities. Effective management of PAD requires an interprofessional approach involving various healthcare professionals. The critical aspects of interprofessional care for PAD patients focus on risk factor modification, drug therapy, exercise therapy, nutrition therapy, critical limb ischemia care, and interventional radiology and surgical procedures. The primary treatment goal for PAD...
Coronary Artery Disease V: Interprofessional Care01:27

Coronary Artery Disease V: Interprofessional Care

Interprofessional care for coronary artery disease includes pharmacological therapy and revascularization procedures.Pharmacological therapy for Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) aims to manage symptoms, prevent complications, and improve patient outcomes through various classes of medications:Antiplatelet Agents:Aspirin and Clopidogrel: These medications inhibit platelet aggregation, preventing blood clots, which is crucial for avoiding heart attacks and strokes. Doctors often prescribe these...

Area of Science:

  • Health Professions Education
  • Interprofessional Learning
  • Online Education

Background:

  • Interprofessional learning (IPL) is crucial for healthcare teamwork.
  • Assessing student attitudes towards IPL is essential for effective program design.
  • Web-based platforms offer scalable solutions for delivering IPL.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of a web-based interprofessional education package on undergraduate health science students' attitudes.
  • To measure changes in students' readiness for interprofessional learning (RIPLS) before and after the intervention.

Main Methods:

  • A before-and-after study design was employed.
  • Participants included undergraduate health science students.
  • The 17-item Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) was administered pre- and post-intervention.

Main Results:

  • A statistically significant improvement was observed in the RIPLS subscale for "shared learning" (p=0.035).
  • The study involved 46 students, with 44 completing the intervention.
  • The participant group comprised predominantly female students with a mean age of 22.6 years.

Conclusions:

  • Web-based interprofessional education packages can positively influence undergraduate health science students' attitudes towards IPL.
  • The findings suggest that online interventions are effective in enhancing shared learning perceptions.
  • Further research can explore the long-term effects and broader applicability of such digital learning tools.
