Background:
Endometrial carcinoma usually occurs in post-menopausal women, but in three to five percent of cases, it affects patients under 40 years of age, who wish to preserve their fertility. Patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and the features of this syndrome (including obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperandrogenism) are at great risk of developing endometrial carcinoma.
Case Report:
The authors report a case of endometrial adenocarcinoma at Stage I in a 37-year-old obese woman with PCOS who underwent surgical staging.
Discussion:
In young women with obesity and PCOS, a periodic evaluation of the endometrium and implementation of risk-reducing measures for the development of endometrial cancer are needed.
