Abstract:
Recommendations by the Willis Commission for trusts to review processes for healthcare assistant development were echoed in the Francis report. HCAs are not regulated nationally, nor do they have a guaranteed standard of training. Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has responded to this challenge by setting up an HCA development pathway focusing on quality and patient safety. This article explains how it was implemented.
