This study introduces a simple method to objectively assess mental stress using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to measure brain activity in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Higher prefrontal cortex (PFC) asymmetry at rest correlated with increased anxiety, offering a new tool for stress evaluation.
