Equipments Used To Measure Blood Pressure

Direct Method
This invasive approach involves cannulating a peripheral artery. During each cardiac contraction, pressure generates mechanical motion within the catheter, transmitted through rigid, fluid-filled tubing to a transducer. This transducer converts mechanical motion into electrical signals displayed as waveforms on a monitor. An automatic flushing system prevents blood backflow. Due to the potential risk of unexpected arterial blood loss, this method is primarily used in intensive...

Area of Science:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Assistive Technology

Background:

  • Adaptive equipment prescription is key in occupational therapy for promoting independent living.
  • Limited research exists on actual patient utilization rates of prescribed adaptive equipment.
  • Understanding utilization patterns is crucial for effective rehabilitation and resource allocation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a quality assurance study on patient utilization of adaptive equipment.
  • To identify the rate of adaptive equipment utilization among patients.
  • To explore reasons for non-utilization and inform practice.

Main Methods:

  • A quality assurance study design was employed.
  • Patient utilization of prescribed adaptive equipment was assessed.
  • Data on utilization rates and reasons for non-utilization were collected and analyzed.

Main Results:

  • An unexpectedly high utilization rate of 85% for adaptive equipment was observed.
  • Specific reasons contributing to equipment non-utilization were identified.
  • A significant portion of non-responders (22%) may represent primary non-users, indicating potential underestimation of non-utilization.

Conclusions:

  • The high utilization rate suggests the value of adaptive equipment in occupational therapy.
  • Individualizing equipment prescription based on personal and environmental needs, rather than solely diagnosis, is recommended.
  • Implementing systems for timely retrieval of equipment used short-term could improve resource efficiency.
