Abstract:
The etiology of the development of the Serial Manipulation Apparatus stems from a need in the science of motor skill acquisition to develop a form of task more nearly resembling the demands of real-life movement behaviors; namely, where cognition and perception play a major role in determining movement effectiveness. Also, a need was detected for a laboratory task that could be made sufficiently difficult to produce performance curves similar to those that might be obtained in real-life situations.
