Summary

Sutureless total thyroidectomy using energy-based vessel-sealing devices is safe and efficient. Harmonic FOCUS® demonstrated a significantly shorter operation duration compared to Ligasure™ LF1212, with similar low morbidity rates.

Main Results:

  • Mean operation duration was significantly shorter with Harmonic FOCUS® (p < 0.001).
  • Overall morbidity rate was 9.8%, with no significant difference between devices (p = 0.476).
  • Mean hospital stay was 1.09 days, with no need for additional analgesics.

Conclusions:

  • Sutureless total thyroidectomy can be performed securely and efficiently with low morbidity.
  • Both Ligasure™ LF1212 and Harmonic FOCUS® are effective in sutureless thyroidectomy.
  • Harmonic FOCUS® offers a potential advantage in reducing operation time.
