High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (BHDR) dose distribution using Gafchromic film was validated against treatment planning. Results show good agreement, with a minor 2.11% difference between planned and measured isodoses for (192)Ir treatments.
Area of Science:
- Medical Physics
- Radiotherapy Dosimetry
- Radiation Oncology
Background:
- Accurate dose distribution is critical for effective High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (BHDR).
- Gafchromic films are used for dosimetric measurements in radiotherapy.
- The energy dependence of Gafchromic film response needs careful calibration.
Purpose of the Study:
- To measure and validate the dose distribution of (192)Ir High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (BHDR).
- To assess the accuracy of the PLATO treatment planning system by comparing planned and measured isodoses.
- To investigate the energy dependence of Gafchromic EBT2 film response.
Main Methods:
- Dose distribution was measured using Gafchromic EBT2 film for (192)Ir HDR BHDR.
- Film calibration was performed using (60)Co and 6/18 MV LINAC units.
- Experimental dose distributions were compared with those generated by the PLATO planning system.
Main Results:
- Experimental dose distribution measurements closely matched the PLATO treatment planning system.
- A mean difference of 2.11% was observed between the planned and measured isodoses.
- The study confirmed the feasibility of using Gafchromic film for HDR BHDR dosimetry.
Conclusions:
- Gafchromic EBT2 film is a reliable dosimeter for (192)Ir HDR BHDR.
- The PLATO planning system provides accurate dose predictions for HDR BHDR.
- Precise calibration is essential due to the energy-dependent response of Gafchromic films.
