Legal issues in pediatric plastic surgery

Physicians often tend to take a paternalistic/maternalistic attitude in their treatment of children. This attitude must be tempered with an understanding of various legal issues that surround the medical care of minors. This article discusses the issues of informed consent, overriding parental withholding of consent, and the states' statutes of limitation with regards to the treatment of minors.
