Summary

This case report details the first documented instance of an anterior-inferior (obturator) hip dislocation in a child, successfully treated with closed reduction. The child experienced no long-term complications after a one-year follow-up.

Background:

  • Traumatic hip dislocation is a rare pediatric injury.
  • Posterior dislocations are most common, but anterior variants exist.
  • Anterior-inferior (obturator) dislocation is exceptionally rare in children.

Observation:

  • A young boy sustained a traumatic anterior-inferior hip dislocation.
  • The femoral head was displaced into the obturator foramen.
  • This represents the first reported case in English literature.

Findings:

  • The obturator hip dislocation was managed conservatively with closed reduction.
  • The patient was monitored for one year post-reduction.
  • No sequelae or complications were observed during the follow-up period.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the possibility of obturator hip dislocations in pediatric trauma.
  • Conservative management with closed reduction can be effective.
  • Clinicians should consider this rare injury in the differential diagnosis of pediatric hip dislocations.
