Abstract:
In the title compound, C13H11N3Se, the dihedral angle between the mean plane of the fused seleno-azolo-pyridine ring system and the p-toluidine ring is 14.260 (5)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming zigzag chains extending along the b-axis direction.

Secondary amines react with nitrous acid to form N-nitrosamines, as depicted in Figure 1. Nitrous acid, a weak and unstable acid, is formed in situ from an aqueous solution of sodium nitrite and strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, in cold conditions. The leaving group departs as nitrogen gas, and this easy elimination is the driving force for the substitution reaction.
