Dronabinol in severe, enduring anorexia nervosa: a randomized controlled trial

Dronabinol, a synthetic cannabinoid agonist, significantly increased body weight in women with severe anorexia nervosa (AN) over four weeks. This treatment was well-tolerated, showing potential for managing weight in this difficult-to-treat population.

Background:

- No significant changes were observed in EDI-2 subscale scores over time.

- Dronabinol therapy was well-tolerated in women with severe AN.
- Four weeks of dronabinol treatment induced a small but significant weight gain without severe adverse events.
