Summary

Syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis is a rare eye condition caused by syphilis. Prompt diagnosis and treatment with intravenous penicillin led to the resolution of ocular symptoms and confirmed neurosyphilis.

Background:

Syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection, can manifest with diverse ocular and neurological complications.
Posterior placoid chorioretinitis is an uncommon but recognized ocular finding associated with syphilis.

Observation:

A patient presented with clinical signs suggestive of syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis.
Ocular findings prompted further investigation for disseminated syphilitic infection.

Findings:

Lumbar puncture confirmed neurosyphilis in the affected patient.
The patient's ocular symptoms demonstrated a positive response to treatment.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of considering syphilis in the differential diagnosis of posterior placoid chorioretinitis.
Early detection and appropriate treatment of neurosyphilis are crucial for preventing long-term neurological and visual impairment.
