Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of pomegranate extract supplementation in preventing cognitive dysfunction after cardiac surgery.
  • To assess the impact of pomegranate extract on memory retention in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft and/or valve surgery.

  • A randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving patients undergoing elective heart surgery.
  • Participants received either 2g of pomegranate extract or a placebo daily from one week pre-surgery to six weeks post-surgery.
