Low insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on dialysis are linked to poor nutrition and increased mortality risk. Monitoring IGF-1 may improve survival prediction in these patients.

- Baseline IGF-1 negatively correlated with age, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and poor nutritional status.

- Persistently low or decreasing IGF-1 levels during the first year of dialysis predicted worse survival (aHR 2.19).
Conclusions:
- Low serum IGF-1 in incident dialysis patients is linked to body composition and mineral/bone metabolism markers.
- Serum IGF-1 levels are a significant predictor of increased mortality risk in CKD patients undergoing dialysis.
