Bronchial hyperresponsiveness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) is common in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) patients. Increased OSAS severity correlates with greater BHR severity, and obesity may contribute to BHR development.

- BHR was present in 21 out of 47 OSAS patients.
- Higher apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), BMI, and ESS scores were observed in patients with BHR.
- Significant negative correlations were found between PD 20 values and AHI, BMI, and ESS scores.

- Bronchial hyperresponsiveness is prevalent in OSAS patients.
- Increased OSAS severity is associated with increased BHR severity.
- Obesity may be a contributing factor to the presence of BHR in OSAS.
