Annals of Tropical Paediatrics
|September 1, 1986
Insights
Recurrence of group B streptococcal (GBS) sepsis can occur in infants up to 63 days old. Consider GBS recurrence in infants showing worsening symptoms after initial treatment, even post-neonatal period.
Area of Science:
- Neonatal Medicine
- Infectious Diseases
- Pediatrics
Background:
- Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common cause of neonatal sepsis.
- Early diagnosis and treatment of GBS sepsis are crucial for infant survival.
- Late-onset GBS sepsis can present with varied clinical manifestations.
Abstract:
Recurrence of neonatal group B streptococcal (GBS) sepsis in an infant aged 63 days is reported. Recurrence of GBS should be considered in an infant who "goes off" after apparent eradication of the initial infection even after the neonatal period.
