  • Interventions included minimal advice, motivational enhancement therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  • Participants were categorized into recent Internet gamblers (n=57) and non-Internet gamblers (n=60).

  • Recent Internet gamblers wagered more frequently and in larger amounts.
  • Internet gamblers reported more missed school days, family problems, and gambling-related anxiety.
  • Both Internet and non-Internet gamblers showed similar reductions in gambling over time and in response to interventions.

Conclusions:

  • Internet gambling is common among college students with problem gambling behaviors.
  • Brief interventions are effective for college students who gamble online, similar to those who gamble offline.
